Desktop Departures

Can I change the colour of the display screen once purchased?

No, the screen colour selected in the store is the colour the board will remain on. It can not be changed via the web app.

Can I use the Desktop Departures on the go?

Yes, you can plug the board into a USB battery pack and connect to a phone hotspot.

Does the Desktop Departures come with a power supply?

No, the board only comes with a USB cable that can be plugged into any USB socket, ie any phone charger or computer / laptop. Even tvs and cars. Basically if it has a USB socket you can plug it in.

Does the Desktop Departures require a external speaker for audio announcements?

No, the Desktop Departures has a built in speaker and is audio announcements ready. You can also connect an external Bluetooth speaker if you prefer.

Is the Desktop Departures battery powered?

No, the board receives power via a USB cable.

No, all information is displayed via the departure boards screen.

Can the departure board display multiple stations at once?

No, only one active station is displayed at a time. But there Premium subscription features to make the board automatically cycle between different stations.

Can the departure board show departures from any UK station?

Yes, we support 99% of UK Rail, Tube, Tram & Bus station / stops.

Do the boards show freight services?

No, at the moment they will only show passenger services for passenger stations. But we do plan on adding freight soon!

Do you support the Glasgow Subway?

No, sadly this is a closed system not connected to National Rail with no available public feed.

Yes, All Tyne and Wear Metro stations are now fully supported.

How do I set up the board with my preferred stations and routes?

All configuration is done via our web configuration app.

How does my board access the departure information?

The board will talk to our servers via your WiFi connection and then talk to a variety of external data feeds to receive the relevant departure information.

How long does it take to arrive once ordered?

We ship the boards out within 1-2 days and offer 24/48 hour shipping via Royal Mail and Parcel Force.

How often is the departure information updated?

The departure information is updated every 60sec in free mode and every 30sec when running a Premium subscription.

Is the departure board suitable for displaying in any room?

Yes, the Desktop Departures is best suited for a bedside table or kitchen top. The Classic and Pros can be placed on top of furniture and come with mounting kits so they can be wall mounted as well.

Is there a charge for using the departure board?

No, the boards are free to use. Certain options and extra features will require a paid subscription.

What is the difference between the Classic and Pro?

Basically just the size, the Classic is 60cm and has an clear acrylic window and the Pro is 100cm. They both have the exact same functionality and run the same firmware.

Will the departure board require internet access?

Yes, all our boards require a internet connection to receive live departure information.

Will the Departure Boards work in non UK countries?

Yes, as long as you have access to WiFi the board will work. It will only show UK time and services though. The board comes with a uk style wall plug power supply which can be run on 110v to 240v. You can swap this with any local 5v 3amp dc jack wall plug with the correct plug for your country.

Subscriptions

I have purchased a subscription but it does not show up in configuration.

The subscription must be purchased on the same account the board has been registered with.

What is the difference between Premium & Premium Plus subscription?

At the moment the only difference is Premium Plus enables real time bus arrival data as we have to pay for this data up front.

Will one subscription cover multiple departure boards.

Yes, you only require one subscription. This will cover unlimited amount of departure boards which are attached to your account.

Will the departure boards work without a subscription?

Yes, all our departure boards will work without any subscriptions displaying departures for any UK train, tube, tram & bus station / stop but will have limited options and features available. Click here for more information about the various available subscriptions.

Technical Support

After WiFi setup I get ERROR NO IP

The board is unable to connect to your network. Most common reasons for this are..

  • Check for incorrect network password (They are case sensitive)
  • Check the router supports a 2.4ghz network and is on WiFi channel 1 to 6 and any smart channel swapping is disabled.
  • If the board completely refuses to connect to the network (very rare but does occasionally happen) Another solution is to use a cheap WiFi repeater to resolve this problem.

Departure Board says ‘No services available’ when there should be services.

Here are a couple things to check.

  • ‘Filter out services departing in the next x min’ has not been set to a large value filtering out most services at a busy station.
  • ‘Force on ‘no services screen’ permanently’ is not enabled. This will just force the no service screen. to appear.
  • Check there is at least one platform filter selected.
  • Check ‘Include services with unknown platform’ is enabled.

How do I connect my board to a new network?

Press the WIFI reset button for 3 seconds to put the board back into WIFI setup mode. On Desktop Departures this is the little black button at the back. On the Classic it is the black button on the side near the power connector. On the Pro it is the green button on the side near the power connector.

My Departure Board will not turn on

The departure boards take 15-20sec to boot when plugged in. They will have a completely blank screen within this time window. There will be a lit green led on the end cap to indicate the board is receiving power. If you do not see this or the board does not boot after about 60 sec please contact support.

My device will not connect to the ‘DepartureBoard’ network.

The ‘DepartureBoard’ network says ‘No internet’

This warning can be ignored as at this point of the setup the board does not have internet yet.

The network selection page does not appear when typing in 10.0.0.1:8080

First make sure you are connected to the ‘DepartureBoard’ Wifi network on the same device. Double check exactly 10.0.0.1:8080 has been typed into the devices browser. Make sure digit zero’s have been used not letter O’s.

    After an unhappy experience with transatlantic delivery which was IN NO WAY the fault of Departure Boards I tried again, this time with the desktop version which arrived very quickly through normal postage channels rather than incompetent courier companies. ‘Nuff said!

    The desktop version is tiny but impressive! Its legibility is amazing even to my aging eyesight.

    It gives me a link with home, though the time difference means that when I access in in the evening here in Canada it is full night over ‘ome and departures are less frequent!

    I seldom if ever write reviews but in this case cannot say enough about their product and service.

    I don’t know how I could rate this below 5 stars, I love it no matter who you are, whether you like trains or not, it is awesome. It feels like your at the station, and the customisation blew my mind, you can have custom station messages and everything, it announces delays (if you pay for pack) or shows delays and station messages to help you commute or just watch the chaos unfold, anyone who remotely likes trains will love it, you can use it as an alarm and the owner gets back to you instantly if your having issues with it and always resolves it! Highly recommend!

If I could give more stars I would!
This is an amazing product for all train geeks and non geeks alike. Plus, Russell went above and beyond with fantastic customer service. The board is brilliant in its own right but has voice packs and so many other features like news and weather.  I’m blown away!!!  A word of warning.  If you are looking at other products…. Echoing all the other, thoroughly deserved, positive reviews! Went for the medium sized board as a surprise Christmas present for my son. It's fantastic. Really configurable via an intuitive web based app. We did need a bit of support which was provided swiftly and got us up and running with no stress. I was a little nervous about spending quite so much on this but so glad I did. My son loves it and tinkers with the settings. You asked for my opinion about the desktop dep board I purchased.  Well, for the main part it is a nice toy to have. However, I need to ask where the information displayed comes from and by what process it reaches my board.  Why am I asking?  Well, as of up to now there has been displayed information on a M-F service - and this is Sunday.  There have been a few other oddities that I've noticed but I've not looked into them in any detail.

There is another 'peculiarity' I've noticed.  On ANY service which goes past midnight, none of the stations called at by that train after 2359 appear in the 'Calling at list'. I love this. It's mostly a novelty of course but being able to add a news feed does mean I can glance across at what's going on. I'd recommend a sound option for the alarm feature as currently it only flashes the display.
